Aretha Franklin Slams Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj
While discussing the success of her latest album, "Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics" with the Wall Street Journal, Aretha Franklin also shared her opinion of today's contemporary divas, E! News reports.
When asked about her thoughts on Adele, Franklin responded, "good singer." When asked about Alicia Keys, Franklin said "Young performer, good writer, producer."
However, when it came time to talk about Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift, the "A Natural Woman" singer chose to throw subtle jabs and not address her opinion on their artistry.
For Swift, Franklin responded, "Great gowns, beautiful gowns," and for Minaj Franklin replied, "Hmmm. I'm going to pass on that one."
In addition to dissing Swift and Minaj, Franklin also seemed unimpressed by President Barack Obama and refused to comment on how she felt about his two terms as President, Essence reports.
Franklin also slammed performers who use autotune to enhance their vocal ability and described them as "ridiculous."
The last person on Franklin's opposition list was author David Ritz, who penned his latest unauthorized biography of the legendary singer and portrayed her in an unflattering light, Essence reports.
When asked about her opinion on Ritz's decision to published the unauthorized biography, Franklin responded, "He's come up with a book of trash, that's all that is. It's a book of trash. Lies, lies, and more lies, and lies on top of lies. That's all that is."

Contrary to her WSJ interview, Franklin had nice things to say about other contemporary artists and their impact in music during a recent interview with Billboard.
Franklin named Beyonce Knowles, Alicia Keys, and Jennifer Hudson as the innovators of today's music and described the leading ladies as "original."
I think they're doing a very good job, Franklin said in reference to Knowles, Keys, and Hudson. "I hear my influence sometimes; I know when my voice, when something I'm known for, has passed. But these young ladies, for the most part, are all very original."
