Former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez has been on a downward spiral in recent months, but he has not been the only one.

Hernandez's fiancée, Shayanna Jenkins, who was indicted last week by a grand jury on a single count of perjury, has accused prosecutors of pressuring her into providing information against her fiancé.

Jenkins' attorney, Janice Bassil, said the attorneys used "abusive" and "overreaching tactics. Bassil said she does not believe that there is sufficient evidence to charge Jenkins with perjury.

Jenkins faces up to 20 years for allegations of lying to the grand jury. According to Boston.com, if she is accused of perjury during the murder trial then she would face a life sentence.

"I believe they are just simply trying to add pressure,'' Bassil said. "They are trying to pressure her, but perhaps they are also trying to pressure him [Hernandez] through her.''

"There is a famous saying, a grand jury will indict a ham sandwich,'' Bassil said.

"I look forward to challenging this in court. I really do. If a grand jury is supposed to protect citizens from overreaching prosecutors, then there is a lot of work to be done here.''

Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to murdering his friend Odin Lloyd in mid-June. He also pleaded not guilty to weapons charges in connection with the incident.

In the meantime, Hernandez's cousin Tanya Singleton, was arraigned this week after pleading not guilty to conspiracy to commit accessory after the fact following Lloyd's death.

Hernandez's two alleged accomplices, Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz, have also been charged with accessory after the fact and have pleaded not guilty.
