Uruguay vs Costa Rica: International Friendly Preview, Live Stream, Prediction
Uruguay will look to avenge their defeat to Costa Rica during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil when they collide in an international friendly match on Thursday at Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.
Costa Rica scored a 3-1 win against Uruguay in their Group D match, which jump-started their impressive run that led to their best World Cup finish. Coach Jorge Luis Pinto led Costa Rica to the quarterfinals of the tournament where they lost to eventual third placers the Netherlands on penalties.
Uruguay defender Diego Godin said that they are not focused on avenging their World Cup defeat, but the 28-year-old pointed out that they will take the match seriously to keep their unbeaten run since the Brazil tournament.
"We had to row and suffer as we always do, but we cannot say it is a revenge because the context is different, it is a friendly game." Godin said via Sportal. "The scenario is totally different, but is true that we take this match with a high sense of responsibility."
Luis Suarez is also expected to play on Thursday, and the controversial striker said that he is focused on helping Uruguay win against Costa Rica without thinking about the talks about his suspension.
Suarez added that he will show the same desire to win, but will be extra careful to avoid committing the same mistake he did during the World Cup. The FC Barcelona striker bit Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini, which led to a four-month ban from competitive matches.
"I'm trying to be the same on the pitch, but without making mistakes," Suarez said in an interview via Fox Sports. "No one's going to take away my desire to win, to triumph, but I'm trying to be a bit more intelligent and to take a breath -- not only before making those mistakes, but also before arguing, insulting, everything."
The Uruguay-Costa Rica friendly match will kick off at 6 p.m. EST. Football fans can catch the action via online live streaming through this link.
