Nick Cannon to Host 'Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous': NBC Reboot Will Highlight Tech Tycoons, Philanthropy
NBC is reviving "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" but with a new celebrity host. A pilot has been ordered for the formerly syndicated series hosted by Robin Leach from the 1980s and '90s, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"America's Got Talent" host Nick Cannon has been mentioned as Leach's replacement. The reboot is another attempt after the Style network originally tried to revive the series with Cannon attached to the project. However, Style was rebranded as the Esquire Network two months after Cannon became involved with "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" and the show ceased to move forward.
According to reports, NBC's version of the show will be a very different take from what "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" would have been on Style. This iteration of the program, which catalogues the luxuries of famous celebrities, will focus on Cannon's personal point of view and feature fun profiles of individuals with unique hobbies, tastes and personalities.
The network said the episodes will feature some of the new tech billionaires who have become extremely wealthy since the original show aired, replacing a generation of older tycoons with new tastes and luxuries.
Besides the extravagant homes and personal items these rich and famous people own, Cannon will also speak on their philanthropic work.
As with the Style take, "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" is produced through Relativity Television, Rysher Entertainment and Television 360. Cannon, Tom Forman and Jason Raff from "America's Got Talent" will all be executive producers. Cannon's production work will be through his television company NCredible Entertainment.
Cannon's past gigs hosting include "America's Got Talent," the Nickelodeon's Kids Choice Awards, the Halo Awards and Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest.
"Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" is NBC's move to compete with Fox's revival of another unscripted show, the Jeff Foxworthy-hosted "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader," although both broadcast networks have recently struggled to find the right next step in reality television.
