After massive layoffs at Univision Puerto Rico in October, a new Facebook page calling for a boycott of the company has been launched. Already, over 34,000 people have joined it.

When the 109 layoffs accorded at Univision back in mid-October, Biocot a Univision decided to make the page. Within 72 hours the page had 30,000 supporters, or likes, on Facebook.

A similar social media boycott campaign ended up causing Puerto Rico's number one TV show to leave the air.

Local talent on the island of Puerto Rico is now off the air and many without jobs. Because of this, the boycott of Univision aims to get Puerto Ricans to stop watching the network.

There are over 3.6 million people living on the island so 34,000 boycotters is not devastation to Univision but certainly Univision is noticing it.

Recently, there was some confusion on whether the Facebook page was anti-Mexican. The page's admin insisted that that was not the case.

"This is a boycott against UNIVISION and not against Mexicans," part of the post said, "so I ask that we respect that. Every nation in every corner of the world has good people and bad people. We shouldn't generalize. Remember that we are all LATINOS."

It really seems like the page is trying to educate the people of Puerto Rico rather than bash Univision.

On Twitter the hashtag #BoicotAUnivision is also a place for people to vent their angers and frustrations towards the company.

Latino Rebels reported back in late October that there could be a lawsuit against the station, but never clarified on that issue.

With a new way of business, Univision in Puerto Rico is upsetting many of the islanders. The company seems to have moved on. On Twitter, they are posting normal show pictures, clips and tweets like nothing ever happened.
