DC Comics 'The Suicide Squad' 2016 Movie Cast and Release Date: Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney and More Linked to Villian Members
It looks like the competition to make the best comic book movie adaptation is still on. DC Comics' "The Suicide Squad" is eyeing A-list celebrities for their upcoming film, "The Suicide Squad."
The list reportedly includes Tom Hardy, Jared Leto, Will Smith, and rising star Jai Courtney from the "Divergent" movie franchise and the upcoming "Terminator 5." Margot Robbie has also been linked to this movie project. Robbie has starred in "The Wolf of Wall Street," "Pan Am" the TV series, and will be in an upcoming film, "Focus," alongside Smith.
Warner Bros. and DC Comics are reportedly fast tracking "The Suicide Squad" film project. Both entertainment companies have been seeking out big stars. It is expected that Warner Bros. and DC Comics might take a modern route for "The Suicide Squad." That iteration of the group was written by John Ostrander and Ryan Scott.
The Suicide Squad is made up of villains from the DC Comics universe: Rick Flag, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, the Joker, Captain Boomerang and Lex Luthor. They are an anti-hero team of incarcerated super villains who work for the U.S. government, and they undertake high-risk black ops missions in exchange for shortened prison sentences.
Courtney has been linked to Deadshot, a villain of Batman and ally of Catwoman. While Leto, Hardy, Smith and Robbie are in various stages of discussions to join the film, Variety reported.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. is reportedly flirting to have Leto play the infamous Joker.
Robbie is linked to the role of Harley Quinn.
Hardy might play Rick Flag, the founding member of "he Suicide Squad.
Smith's role is up in the air, but reports suggest that he could play the Flash's nemesis Captain Boomerang.
Another report suggests that Jesse Eisenberg, who is already confirmed to play Lex Luthor in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," might also join, inentertainment reports.
Warner Bros. and DC Comics have neither confirmed or denied anything at this point.
"The Suicide Squad" might be released as early as 2016. The film is expected to be directed by David Ayer of the recently released "Fury," Deadline reported.
