19 Kids and Counting Cast News: Michelle Duggar and Jim Bob Duggar Conduct Kissing Challenge on Facebook, Delete Photos of Gay Couples Kissing
On Monday, "19 Kids and Counting" parents Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar took to Facebook to respond to the kissing controversy surrounding their newlywed daughter Jessa, Us Weekly reports.
Critics recently slammed Jessa for posting what they considered to be a racy Instagram photo of the herself kissing her husband Ben Seewald given the Duggar family's conservative views on romance and PDA.
Despite the backlash, Jessa's parents took to Facebook to post their version of their daughter's kissing photo and encouraged other couples to the same.
Immediately following the Duggar's Facebook kissing challenge, couples flooded the Duggar's Facebook page to share their own PDA. However, same sex couples did not make the cut due to the family's conservative religious beliefs against homosexuality.
On Tuesday, John Becker, the head of LGBTQ blog The Bilerico Project, revealed that the Duggar family banned his kissing photo with his partner and also banned many other same sex couples for posting on the Duggar Facebook page. "I posted this photo of Michael and me with the following comment: 'Happily married for nearly nine years; working hard for #MarriageEquality for all loving couples,'" Becker wrote in his blog post.
He continued, "It was getting lots of likes, but the Duggars must not have liked it very much -- they pulled it down and blocked me from posting, liking, or commenting on the page altogether. How sad that they feel so threatened by other loving marriages."
E! News reports that "19 Kids and Counting" producers from TLC have yet to comment on the Duggar same sex photo-banning. However, the Stir reports that the Duggars recently took it upon themselves to address the ban on Facebook. On Thursday, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar posted a religious passage and words from Rick Warren about staying true to one's convictions and not always agreeing to a person's lifestyle.
The Stir suggests that the Duggar's recent posts might be the family's way of "saying that because they banned same-sex couples on their Facebook page with kindness and without hateful words, they get a free pass." Check out the Duggar's Facebook posts below.
