Twitter has been around for a long time. Those who are new to Twitter and those who have been around since 2006 know that the 140 character micro-blogging site is apparently here to stay.

Those Twitter originals dating back to 2006 know that checking out what you and your followers were tweeting back then used to be hard. Users used to have to install some third party program and hope that it could find the tweet for you.

On Tuesday, Twitter made it easier, Wired reports. With an expanded search option, you will be able to search as far back as you want. You can search from your first day on Twitter all the way up to the present time.

Twitter's search function used to be limited to hashtags (#) and people's names or Twitter handles (@name). Now, it's much better thanks to the advanced search option on Twitter.

Meanwhile, third party apps like HootSuite and TweetDeck will not be able to capitalize on this advanced search option.

Hundreds of billions of tweets have been sent since the first tweet was performed in 2006, so clearly Twitter took its time to perfect this advanced search option.

It's not exactly easy to get to the new search feature, so here is the link for the advanced search option. From here you will have a wealth of options to choose from (dates, places, people, hashtags, written in, and much more).

This seems like a great idea for people doing research or just curious people who want to see what was going on in the last eight years. There will likely be tweets about nearly every topic you can imagine. Give it a try.

What do you think of this advanced search option? Is it something that Twitter should do? Or is it too much? Leave us a comment below and let us know what you think.
