NBC's hit comedy series "Park and Recreation" will begin its seventh and final season next year, and has already announced some A-list stars who will be appearing in the final episodes. John Hamm is set to appear again in a brief reprisal as inept National Parks employee, Ed.

The "Mad Men" star made a surprise appearance on the Season 6 finale, when a flash-forward showed the characters thrust three years into the future. In the final moments of the last episode, Amy Pohler's character Leslie is seen firing Ed, who underperformed even more than Jim O'Heir's bungling character Larry.

"If I have my way, every episode where you see events that take place before that moment will include a shot of him doing something insanely incompetent," showrunner Mike Schur said about the potential for Hamm to come back to the show, according to Entertainment Weekly.

E! News' Kristin Dos Santos said Hamm's return will be short-lived, however, only lasting a single episode.

The announcement means Hamm will join other returning guest stars like Natalie Morales and Megan Mullally.

Schur admitted that Ben Schwartz and comedian Billy Eichner will also return to their roles for final season appearances. More familiar faces like "Xena" actress Lucy Lawless are expected to make appearances to commemorate the show's last year as well.

Lawless plays Diane, the wife of Ron Swanson (played by Nick Offerman), on "Parks and Recreation."

"I love them so much," Lawless said. "It's such a cute relationship, and I'd love to put a button on that. But it's about getting back in time!"

Schur has been vocal in interviews about his hope that the Emmy nomination returns to the show for its last chance.

Despite speculation that "Parks and Recreation" will be returning early in 2015, no official premiere date has been announced.
