'The Queen Latifah Show' Cancelled: Is Tyra Banks and Chrissy Teigen's New ABC Show the Reason Why?
Earlier this week, CBS announced its decision to cancel "The Queen Latifah" show after two seasons on air.
Following the cancellation news, Queen Latifah took to Facebook to share a letter from her production team, who thanked the host -- whose real name is Dana Owens -- for her work ethic and dedication on "The Queen Latifah" show during its two-season run.
"Just a little note to say Thank You...Thank you for your strong work ethic and great effort in getting The Queen Latifah Show off the ground and running. Your dedication and sacrifice was crucial to the entire team, and in the face of intense challenges, you displayed 'True Grit'!" the letter begins.
The Wrap reports that "The Queen Latifah's Show's" ratings weren't stellar; however, they weren't terrible and remained consistent throughout the second season.
"Season-to-date, it's averaging a 1.0 with 1.4 million total viewers, which means that her audience is staying level and that they're loyal," The Wrap's Jethro Nededog writes.
Despite "The Queen Latifah Show's" consistent ratings, The Wrap suggests that Tyra Banks' new ABC-produced talk show might be the reason why Queen Latifah's talk show will fade to black following its second season.
"People are running scared because Tyra's pilot is amazing, probably the best offering for the format next year," a The Wrap source said. "Whatever goes against Tyra has to be really strong."
The source also adds that "race might have something to do" with the cancellation of "The Queen Latifah Show."
"Perhaps two black females in the category would split the audience," says the source.
The Wrap reports that Tyra Banks' syndicated talk show "The F.A.B." will include co-hosts Chrissy Teigen, Elle creative director Joe Zee, designer Lauren Makk and YouTube star Leah Ashley.
"The F.A.B." is scheduled to air on ABC in the fall of 2015.
