Super Smash Bros. has proved record-breaking for the Nintendo Wii U. The game sold 490,000 physical and digital copies during the first three days it was available in the United States, making it the fastest selling game for the console, according to its manufacturer.

"Smash dethrones Mario Kart 8 ... (until now) the fastest selling game in the console's history," Polygon reported. "The Smash Bros. franchise has sold more than 14 million games in the (United States) alone, according to the company, and the metacritic score of 93 the game earned makes it the highest-rated original game of this generation."

Super Smash Bros. hit the U.S. market on Nov. 21. It will come out in Europe on Nov. 28, in Australia on Nov. 29 and in Japan on Dec. 6.

Nintendo feted the extraordinary sales numbers in a statement, Gamespot noted.

"Marketing executive Scott Moffitt said Nintendo's holiday season is already 'off to a great start,' though he cautioned that 'there's a lot of work left to do,'" the website explained. "He also teased that Nintendo has 'a few more surprises' in store for fans."

According to Polygon, Moffit also spoke about Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

"With great deals coming on Black Friday and Cyber Monday and great content like Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker launching next week, Nintendo will offer shoppers the best combination of fun and value this holiday season," he said.

This is indeed a good time for players to stock up on games, Kotaku said.

"There's no need to wait around for Black Friday deals," the website noted. "A lot of them have already gone live."

The website highlighted a $360 Wii U bundle electronics giant Best Buy is offering. The package includes Super Smash Bros. along with three other games -- Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Nintendo Land and Super Mario 3D World. To get the deal instead of the sticker price of $409.97, you will need to enter the coupon code "WIIUDEAL."

"While a lot of retailers offer basically the same stuff at basically the same prices on Black Friday, Best Buy had quite a few advertised deals that were head and shoulders above the pack, and you can get them right now," Kotaku explained.
