Abel Sanchez, Gennady Golovkin's trainer, believes that his fighter will knock Miguel Cotto out if the two middleweight champions collide in a title unification bout next year.

Sanchez responded to Cotto's trainer, Freddie Roach, who recently said that Golovkin won't stand a chance against the reigning World Boxing Council middleweight champion.

Sanchez took a swipe at Cotto and Roach, saying that both of them know that they would be in big trouble against Golovkin, while also adding that the Puerto Rican champion will get knocked out within five rounds.

"Miguel Cotto couldn't go five rounds, and Freddie Roach knows that and Miguel Cotto knows that," Sanchez said via RingTV. "Freddie gets on a rant like that and goes over the top to deflect the real questions so that he doesn't have to give true answers. But Freddie knows the truth."

Golovkin, the reigning World Boxing Association and International Boxing Organization middleweight champion, has expressed interest in facing Cotto in a title unification bout, but Cotto's camp has yet to respond to the challenge.

Cotto and his camp are reportedly in talks with Golden Boy Promotions about a possible fight against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in May next year. Sanchez previously said that he does not think Cotto will face Golovkin, knowing that Golovkin will be a tough opponent for them -- a statement that was echoed by Golovkin's promoter, Tom Loeffler.

"If Cotto is willing to get in the ring with GGG, he will get knocked out," Loeffler said. "As Abel has always said, nobody can last 12 rounds with GGG at middleweight, and that includes Cotto."

But in a recent interview, Roach said they are willing to face Golovkin after Cotto's fight against Alvarez, which will likely happen in May next year.

"There is some great competition for Miguel up at 160," Roach said. "But the fight that we hope will come up is Alvarez, which is a great fight. If Miguel wins that fight, then there's 'Triple G' out there."

Roach added that they are not afraid of Golovkin despite the 32-year-old's impressive 31-0 record with 28 knockouts, saying that the Kazakh is not unbeatable like what his trainer thinks.

"Everyone is talking about Golovkin, saying that he's got nobody to fight. I don't think that he's unbeatable," Roach said. "He's a good fighter right now but we love challenges and that's a great challenge for us on 160."
