Hotel Transylvania 2 Cast, News & Updates: Mel Brooks Cast as Undead Father Vlad in Fall 2015 Sequel to Blockbuster Smash Hit
Sony Pictures Animation announced this week that it has finally made the perfect choice in terms of who will be cast in the role of "ancient, undead and incredibly grumpy" father Vlad in the upcoming motion picture sequel "Hotel Transylvania 2": none other than horror movie aficionado Mel Brooks.
The award-winning writer, director, performer, composer and producer Brooks will play father to Adam Sandler's character Dracula, alongside oodles of other big name stars and starlets. Among them: Andy Samberg, Selena Gomez, David Spade, Keegan-Michael Key, Steve Buscemi and Fran Drescher, wegotthiscovered.com reports.
According to a recap from USA Today, the first "Hotel Transylvania," which hit theaters in 2012, examined the generation gap between Dracula and his daughter Mavis.
It went on to explore Mavis' inner need to see and experience the world outside of life at her family's hotel. The always-reliable Hollywood love twist was drawn out to peek at the driving forces behind the young vampire girl's attraction to a certain equally young human acquaintance named Jonathan.
In the new upcoming release of "Hotel Transylvania 2," we join Dracula, Mavis, Jonathan and various other monster pals as they take part in a comic adventure... of sorts.
However, Sony reminds viewers that "when the old-old-fashioned vampire Vlad arrives at the hotel for an impromptu family get-together, Hotel Transylvania is in for a comic collision of supernatural old-school and modern day cool."
When asked to comment on his new leading role, Brooks replied "I'm having a wonderful time with the character Vlad. He's been around for eons and he's a pretty crabby guy. Basically, he reminds me of me."
According to reports, the first "Hotel Transylvania" grossed a whopping $358 million on an $85 million budget, leading to movie magic. The film picked up a golden globe nomination and with a sequel featuring the likes of mega star movie personality Brooks, there's definitely potential for the film to break previous earnings records when it hits theaters on Sept. 25, 2015.
"Hotel Transylvania 2" has a megawatt behind-the-scenes team as well. The film is being directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, produced by Michelle Murdocca, executive produced by Sandler, Allen Covert and Ben Waisbren, and was written by Rober Smigel.
