Gene Simmons’ Daughter Sophie Says She Refuses to be Retouched in Photos
Sophie Tweed-Simmons, the daughter of legendary rocker Gene Simmons, recently sat down with Yahoo Style to discuss her views on fame, body shaming, and her decision to not be retouched in photos.
Being the daughter of a famous rockstar and playmate has prompted Simmons to shy away from fame in an attempt to establish herself as her own entity, she explained.
However, it was her passion for style and fashion that eventually led her to use her famous name as a way to launch her clothing line.
"I felt like I really had the chance to give girls confidence with affordable clothing," she explained. "If you have a platform, you should use it."
Simmons' fashion collaboration with the Style Club has allowed her to create garments for average-sized women like herself who fluctuate in size and embrace their curvy frames.
"I'm not a high-fashion model, and I'm not plus size, which is weird for fashion, but not for life," Tweed revealed. "A lot of designers that I love don't fit me. I wanted to do cuts that would be flattering to girls who have some shape."
Although Simmons admits that she loves her curvy frame, she did recall a time when her body was publicly criticized in the media and was labeled as plus-size.
"We went on a family vacation, and I was wearing a thong bikini like my favorite celebrity, Sofîa Vergara," she recalled. "As a 17-year-old girl, I had to see my butt on the cover of The Daily Mail with the headline 'Gene Simmons plus-size daughter.' It made the global news circuit. I grew up a chubby kid and into a curvy girl. I was OK with it, but the world wasn't. I have cellulite, stretch marks, and freckles, and that's fine with me."
Despite the public shame and humiliation, Simmons has gone on to remain confident and comfortable in her skin and refuses to let photographers digitally alter her images, she says.
When shooting the promotional photos for her Style Club launch, Simmons revealed that she asked the photographers to keep her photos unedited.
Fans can subscribe to the Style Club to shop Sophie Tweed-Simmons' line, which includes floral leggings, loose cardigans and sequined skirts, Yahoo Style reports.
