New Coldplay Album: 'A Sky Full of Stars' Singer Chris Martin Compares 'A Head Full of Dreams' to the 'Last Harry Potter Book'
In a interview with Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1, frontman Chris Martin revealed in the wee hours of Thursday morning that Coldplay is hard at work on their seventh studio album, BBC reports.
This information comes on the heels of being awarded BBC Radio 1's Hottest Record of 2014 for their hit single "Magic," beating out The 1975 ("Medicine"), Eminem ("Guts Over Fear" feat. Sia), Hozier ("Take Me To Church") and Slipknot ("The Negative One") in a fan-based vote.
Elated about the award, Martin joyously thanked the fans for winning the prestigious award.
"We haven't told anyone this. We're making an album called 'A Head Full of Dreams,'" Martin said. "We're right in the middle of it, and because it's you (Zane Lowe) and Radio 1, this feels like, ok I'll tell you!"
Martin added that he felt "a bit nervous" about revealing the news because he did not "get permission."
"But that's what we're doing," he continued. "It's our seventh thing, and the way we look at it is like the last Harry Potter book or something. Not to say there might not be another thing one day, but this is the completion of something."
Since being released on May 16, "Ghost Stories" topped the iTunes Store albums charts in over 100 countries.
"It was great to go from 'Ghost Stories' to go right back into the studio, and now we're making things that sound different," Martin said. "I have to think of it as the final thing we're doing otherwise we wouldn't put everything into it. Then we will go on tour."
The announcement was also made mere hours after their sixth studio album "Ghost Stories" was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album at the 57th Grammy Awards alongside nominees Miley Cyrus ("Bangerz"), Ariana Grande ("My Everything"), Katy Perry ("Prism"), Ed Sheeran ("x") and Sam Smith ("In the Lonely Hour").
