Kate Middleton and Prince William Pregnancy Update: Details of Duke's Letter to Widower of Duchess' Nurse Who Committed Suicide Revealed
On Saturday, the Daily Mail published a letter that Prince William wrote and mailed to the widower of the late nurse who took care of his wife Kate Middleton during her pregnancy.
The nurse who cared for the Duchess of Cambridge during her difficult pregnancy with Prince George went by the name Jacintha Saldanha. She tragically committed suicide on December 2012 following a hoax call from two Australian radio DJs who spoke with Saldana pretending to be the Queen and Prince Charles in order to obtain and broadcast personal information about the Duchess for their radio show, The Times UK reports.
The radio DJs, Mel Grieg and Michael Christian from Australia's 2DayFM, have since apologized for their prank call and their radio show has been terminated, People reports.
The Daily Mail now confirms that Prince William also addressed Saldanha's suicide via a heartfelt letter he sent to her widower, Ben Barboza, a few weeks after his wife's shocking death. In the letter, dated New Year's Day, 2013, William writes on behalf of his wife, Catherine, and himself, expressing "how sorry" they are "to hear about Jacintha."
"It is unbelievably sad and we both extend to you and your family our deepest condolences. It must be a very difficult time for you all with many questions and thoughts, but we both pray that things will get easier for you," William continued.
The Prince concluded his letter by praising the late nurse for taking such good care of the Duchess during her stay at King Edward VII hospital.
Saldana's daughter Lisha, who is also struggling with the loss of her mother, was addressed by Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, whose mother, Sarah Barrantes, died in a road accident in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
"I send so much love for your broken heart," the Duchess wrote in the card. "I am so sorry you are without your Mummy. I lost mine in a car crash, and it is so final, and you wish you had said goodbye and said so much. This card comes with strength, love and hugs."
