West Ham United continues to creep up in the English Premier League (EPL) standings, finishing the day in third place after a 3-1 victory over Swansea City on Sunday.

West Ham's high-priced transfer acquisition Andy Carroll, who has been plagued with injuries throughout the year, came through for the Hammers, scoring his first two goals of the 2014-2015 season to give them a win at Upton Park.

Wilfried Bony put the Swans ahead of West Ham down 1-0 after Ecuadoran winger Jefferson Montero found Bony open in the box and smashed the shot past Hammer keeper Adrián to put Swansea up 1-0 in the 19th minute. Carroll would tie the game prior to the half, heading Carl Jenkinson's cross to the to the top right corner in the 41st minute before breaking the tie in the 66th minute with yet another header off Stewart Downing's corner kick.

Swansea would end the match a man down after keeper Lukasz Fabianski earned a red card in the 68th minute after fouling Diafra Sakho on a fast-break with Sakho, making Swansea pay in the 87th minute after blasting Carroll's pass past back-up keeper Gerhard Tremmel to seal the victory.

West Ham has won their third match in a row, having taken down West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United, and hope to continue their roll going into the tough stretch of the season.

"Movement in the box is what it's all about. The heading ability comes after the movement that gives [Andy Carroll] the space to tap the ball in and that happened on the two goals that he scored," said West Ham coach Sam Allardyce. "He's unstoppable when he gets that space and he can attack the ball. When he stands a little to close to defenders and starts fighting them, we don't get the best out of him."

With the win, West Ham leaps over Manchester United and Southampton -- who play on Monday -- to finish the day in third place in the standings.

In Sunday's other game, Aston Villa defeated last place Leicester City 2-1 at Villa Park, staying unbeaten in their last five matches. Leicester, looking to get out of the relegation zone, struck first when Argentine striker Leonardo Ulloa got a rebound past Aston Villa keeper American Brad Guzan, who mishandled a shot-on-goal in the 13th minute.

Ciaran Clark would nail the equalizer four minutes later deflecting Ashley Westwood's free kick with a header to make the score 1-1. Christian Benteke found Alan Hutton open in the box in the 71st minute, who drilled a shot past Kasper Schmeichel to give Aston Villa the 2-1 win over the Foxes.

"We went a goal down against the run of play but some of the football we played was fantastic," said Aston Villa coach Paul Lambert. "I'm not one for statistics but someone told me we had 72% of the play."
