Celebrations are under way at Nintendo after the Japanese giant's Wii U logged a 90 percent uptick in year-on-year software sales, according to the International Business Times. The success of Super Smash Bros. in particular contributed to the turnaround for the "long-suffering" console.

Super Smash Bros. on Wii U sold some 710,000 units in just 10 days. In turn, sales of the console itself are the best they have been since its launch in late 2012.

Wii U aficionados, meanwhile, can benefit from some holiday deals if they wish to stock up on games before Christmas. DealNews and 6aming have listed some of the most enticing offers:

  • Amazon is offering Hyrule Warriors for Nintendo Wii U for $47.99, a deal that comes with free shipping. Hyrule Warriors is a hack-and-slash action video game that is part of the Legend of Zelda series. The Internet retail giant has achieved "the lowest total price we've seen," DealNews noted.

  • At Wal-Mart, gamers can purchase Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge for Nintendo Wii U for $7.99.

"Opt for Site-to-Store pickup to dodge the $4.97 shipping charge," DealNews recommends.

Ninja Gaiden 3 is an action-adventure video game developed by the Japanese house Team Ninja.

  • Target, meanwhile, is offering Mario Kart 8 for Nintendo Wii U for $47.99. The Minneapolis-based retailer is offering free shipping all throughout the holiday season. The kart-racing game, released in May, is the eighth major installment in the Mario Kart series.

  • Kmart is giving out a $30 discount, which puts Nintendo Land for Wii U at $29.98. The deal requires an in-store pickup, however. Nintendo Land is a party video game developed in-house.

For those who do not yet own the console, the Nintendo Store offers a refurbished Wii U Deluxe for $200. The device comes with 32 gigabytes of internal storage and a Wii U GamePad. The bundle also includes the Nintendo Land video game to get players started. A refurbished Wii Remote Plus, meanwhile, can be added for a mere $15.
