Selena Gomez Sued By Perfume Company Adrenalina, Settles for Undisclosed Amount
Selena Gomez, formally of Wizards of Waverly Place, faced a multimillion dollar lawsuit from Adrenalina Inc., a perfume manufacturing agency stating that she reneged on a multimillion dollar deal. The case was settled as of October 7.
The actress-turned-singer, 21, allegedlyentered into an agreement to develop a fragrance with Adrenalina Inc., and then backed out; breaking her contract after the company had already spent $2 million in marketing, research and development.
Michael Weinsten, Gomez's lawyer, stated that the manufacturer's lawsuit had no footing, and that any alleged promotional obligations were assigned to the pop star after the fact, and that Selena intended to bring forth her own lawsuit against Adrenalina Inc., suing for damages.
Gomez attempted to countersue for $5.2 million, stating that she was owed 5 percent for all Selena-brand scents, on top of a promise of $5.2 million, minimum. She excused her withdrawal from the endorsement agreement by saying that the manufacturing company was going bankrupt, and couldn't afford to produce the products that it'd agreed to, let alone pay its employees. She continued, stating that the deal was terminated in order to protect in her reputation and brand name.
TMZ.com indicated that the both parties agreed on a settlement, and the lawsuits were dismissed. And, though both Adrenalina Inc. and Gomez declined to comment on the undisclosed settlement amount, it is expected that Gomez shelled out at least six or seven figures in order to move past the lawsuit that has been looming over her head since May of this year.
