'Real Housewives of New York Season 6 Cast & Rumors: Sonja Morgan Graces Latino Show Magazine Cover, Shows Off New Boyfriend (Exclusive)
This past week, New York high society was dressed to the nines as they came together to celebrate "Real Housewives of New York" star Sonja Morgan, who landed the cover of Latino Show Magazine's "The Anniversary Issue" and is launching her Sonja Morgan New York fashion collection that is set to debut Spring/Summer 2015.
The event, which was filmed for an episode of "The Real Housewives of New York City," was held at Vanessa Noel Couture in New York.
How does Morgan feel about landing the cover of a Latino luxury magazine, although she is obviously not a Latina?
"I was really excited when they came to me because we have a mutual friend that said, oh I don't know if you're interested ... because my friend had already asked me to do about 12 different covers, and I said, 'No, no, no,' and then he told me about Latino Show Magazine," she explained to Latin Post in an exclusive interview.
"I was like 'oh my God, that is total luxury, it's very international, it has heavyweight paper, it's laminated, and it has the best of the best advertisers. You can see that they have Rolex, German cars ('He's German,' she joked as she pointed to her hunky, 24-year-old model boyfriend Dominik Persy, who stood by her side on the red carpet.)
"And I was like 'How can I say no?' and they told me that 'We are international and you have a taste for luxury and we have a taste for you and we'd love to have you on the cover,' and I was like 'Thank you!'" she added.
"We have Colombian owners, we started with the purpose of having the woman as audience. An international woman who is elegant, independent, who is a trendsetter and she wants to have an exquisite fashion style. We cover fashion, beauty and lifestyle," Cesar Flores, the publisher of Latino Show Magazine told Latin Post.
Why did Latino Show Magazine choose to have Morgan grace its cover for "The Anniversary Issue?"
"Based on our audience, and all of those traits that I described, we felt that Sonja had met all of that criteria," Flores added. "The opportunity presented itself and we said what better opportunity than this and we took it."
In print for three years, Latino Show Magazine has featured many Latina celebrities, actresses and models, including Miss Universe 2013 and Miss Colombia.
"We want to remain international," Flores reiterated. "We want to expand to Miami, Los Angeles, places like Dominican Republic, Brazil and one of the steps is to do events in places like that. The next one will be in about a week in Cali, Colombia."
"It's 100 percent bilingual. We want to serve as a bridge between the cultures," he added. "We are Latinos and we want the Anglo world and vice versa, also the Latino world, to know about this international community that is out there and to serve as an example to see that your dreams are attainable."
At the event, Morgan donned one of her red, elegant evening gowns from her new Sonja Morgan New York fashion collection, which will have ready-to-wear, sportswear, eveningwear and swimwear, as well as a jewelry line.
"It's classic, but it has a sexy twist to it, which is what I represent," Morgan said of her new collection. She also gushed over her stylist Jessica Riolo, who donned a beautiful olive green suit.
"We're very much into color, what's good for people starting with color. Red is the color for me. Leopard is my neutral," she explained.
In addition to Persy, Morgan's daughter Quincy Adams Morgan and Morgan's "Real Housewives of New York" co-stars Ramona Singer and Kristen Taekman showed their support, as well as "rumored new 'Real Housewives of New York' star" Dorinda Medley and Skinny Girl creator Bethany Frankel.
Morgan has reportedly been dating Persy for the past two months. While on the red carpet, Morgan gushed over his good looks and "Old World charm."
Referring to the late iconic Latino designer Oscar de la Renta as "a good friend," Morgan shared her love of Latinos and their influence on pop culture, entertainment and music.
"Where can I start ... just being a pop culture person myself, I mean just you have to lump everyone together sort of, the music industry, and entertainment in general, it's populated by Hispanics," she said. "Ricky Martin, I adore. Jennifer Lopez, I adore her, my hairdresser Marco who's here tonight does her hair, so he has been working with me to do some of these hair pieces and some wigs. I've got have that JLo glow," she laughed. "I like her ponytail look. All the glamour and the style come from the Latins."
With New Year's on the horizon, does Morgan have any New Year's resolutions?
"No, I really don't want to give up anything!" she laughed. "I don't do those New Year's resolutions. I just basically keep ticking things off of my bucket list."
