The AMC series "The Walking Dead" gives a deserted town an unexpected economical boost, as filming of gory scenes have made the town a tourist spot, reports Yahoo! News. Meanwhile, Season 4 spoilers include 50 new characters, with possibly 50 new conflicts, and a whole new Governor returns to face Rick.

Grantville, a west Georgia town, experienced an economic drawback when the cotton mill closed. Gradually, the rural town turned into a ghost town with businesses closing down and residents moving away.

As the town faded into disuse it assumed a post-apocalyptic appearance, the perfect setting for the "The Walking Dead." Scenes filmed in Grantville figured prominently in the episode entitled, "Clear," wherein walkers were wiped out by a character named Morgan. Since the episode's airing, over 3000 visitors have toured Grantville on a free pass, the tour guided by Grantville Mayor Jim Sells himself.

The Mayor's hope is that "The Walking Dead" tourism would draw new investments for the town. The town's newfound popularity has attracted not only American tourists, but visitors coming from Brazil, Singapore and Australia. Mayor Sells is hopeful that the attraction will boost Grantville's economy. He said, "We could use a grocery store, a drug store, a daycare," reports Yahoo!News.

With fans excited for Season 4, there's no doubt that Grantville will continue to flourish as a place associated with the hit AMC series. The production team had reportedly filmed many key scenes of Season 4's first episodes in the town.

Meanwhile, the much-anticipated season includes a two-episode focus on The Governor (David Morrissey), which reportedly features flashbacks that would explain the mythology of the character, according to The Examiner. Executive producer Robert Kirkman had earlier said that The Governor has radically changed this season, and that the character will once again face off with Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln).

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Lincoln gave a few teasers about the upcoming season, saying that "There's around about 50 new characters, which puts obviously an enormous amount of pressure on the group with the practical necessities of food and water; There are always going to be tensions within the group and you find us in a place where people are trying to wrestle with those problems as well as, obviously, the pressure of the walkers and survival," reports Hollywood Life. In the Season 3 finale, viewers witnessed how Rick welcomed the survivors of Woodbury after the tragic massacre led by The Governor; and the show's fans know that more people means more conflict in the post-apocalyptic world of Rick Grimes.

AMC will air the "The Walking Dead" Season 4 on Sunday, October 13 at 9 p.m.
