K. Michelle and Idris Elba Relationship: 'My Life' Singer Reveals She Was 'The Wire' Actor's 'Side Chick' in Interview [Video]
While promoting her latest album "Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart?" K. Michelle stopped by the Breakfast Club and the Wendy Williams show to also discuss Idris Elba -- who she names as the inspiration behind her new album.
K. Michelle first mentioned Elba and her new album on the Breakfast Club and revealed that her eight-month relationship with "The Wire" actor was the inspiration behind her many songs featured on "Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart."
"I sent him the records before they came out," she said. "He said 'This is art. I hate we at this place, but this is art.'"
K. Michelle then went on to reveal that she and Elba first met at the Soul Train awards. Although Elba did not fit the "type" of men that she was used to dating -- i.e., basketball players and rappers -- K. Michelle took a chance and began dating him, she explained.
"He's a very clean person. He's well-mannered. I think that showed me another side of the type of man I can date," she said. "I never thought I would want a man's man, but after [Idris], I might be done with the snap backs."
Although K. Michelle confessed to being enamored with Elba, the romance between the duo was short-lived. She revealed that she and Elba broke up following the birth of his child.
Following her interview on the Breakfast Club, K. Michelle visited the Wendy Williams Show to further discuss her romance and breakup with Elba, Essence reports. She explained that while dating Elba, she realized that she was "the side chick" after discovering Elba was still romantically involved with the mother of his child.
"When I met him, I did find out that he had a woman," she said. "But I did not know they still had that situation. So I kind of looked up and saw that I was the side chick."
Following her discovery, K. Michelle explained she made the decision to not be a "homewrecker" and later broke up with Elba.
