'Arrow' Season 3 Episode 9 Recap and Episode 10 Spoilers: Will Oliver Survive After Being Defeated by Ra's Al Ghu? [Video]
The epic midseason finale of "Arrow" left fans with a shocking cliffhanger after the League of Assassins' notorious leader, Ra's al Ghu, pushed Oliver McQueen over the edge of a cliff. Unfortunately, viewers will have to wait until next year to see whether or not Oliver will survive the devastating fall.
In the last episode, which was titled "The Climb," Oliver took the wrap for his sister Thea after he discovered that she killed Sara upon Malcom Merlyn's request. Malcom admitted that he drugged his daughter so that she would not remember the incident in his quest to ultimately kill Ra's al Ghu.
That's what prompted Oliver to take a trip to Nada Parbat to meet Ra's' at his home in the eastern mountains. He then went head-to-head with the dangerous villain, without help from Team Arrow.
Eventually, Ghul got the upper hand on Oliver during their shirtless fight and plunged his sword deep into Oliver's chest. Then, in a devastating blow, he pushed the Green Arrow off the edge of the mountain, apparently sending him to his death, reports Entertainment Monthly.
While fans were left confused and anxious about Oliver's fate, "Arrow" star Stephen Amell tweeted a cryptic message about his character on the show, writing "It was a good run," on Tuesday night.
The next episode, which is set to air in January, will reveal if Oliver will survive his brutal defeat or if the Starling City hero is truly gone forever.
In the meantime, executive producer Marc Guggenheim dropped a few spoilers about the rest of Season 3 and Laurel's transition into the Black Canary.
"The one thing I want to clarify -- and I don't know how this happened -- it got out there in the ether that we were doing a Black Canary arc," he told Comic Book Resources. "That's not really the case. In episodes 10, 11 and 12, there's some pretty huge growth for Laurel and big steps taken on the road to becoming the Black Canary. That said, it's not the Black Canary show. I'd say episode 10 is all about Team Arrow and dealing with the ramifications and the aftershocks of 309."
He added that "Roy, Felicity and Diggs really come to the fore in 10, 11 and 12."
"Arrow" Season 3, Episode 10, "Left Behind," airs on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
