Borderlands Release Date Coming for Xbox One and PS4?
Are the next generation consoles getting a revamp of the now-classic multiplayer co-op RPG/FPS hybrid Borderlands? Yes -- at least according to a gaming ratings agency in Australia.
Borderlands has spawned a universe of sequels and an upcoming spin-off, but the five-year-old game might get its own second wind on Xbox One and PS4, if a leak from the Australian Classification Board database, spotted by Player Attack (via Cinema Blend) is correct.
The ratings board in Australia listed a game with the title Borderlands: Remastered Edition, purportedly for both Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with an MA15+ rating. The listing has Take-Two Interactive as the game's producer with the publisher being 2K Games and developers listed as Gearbox Software and 2K Australia, so it looks like everything checks out.
But no other details are known yet, and it's hard to see how Gearbox and 2K will drum up excitement for a half-a-decade-old game being re-released on the newest generation of consoles.
Like the Halo Master Chief Collection, a graphics boost in the form of better framerates and improved resolution would be in order, but unlike that re-release, it's hard to see how much improvement can be done to the graphics while keeping the development costs at a low enough level to warrant the release in the first place.
Of course, there's the option of releasing all of the possible DLC extras for Borderlands with the re-release, as Cinema Blend posited. Anyone who's played any Borderlands property knows there's a vast universe of extra characters, custom skins, missions, and loot in all forms that could be included. But that didn't happen with the game of the year editions of Borderlands 2, by far the more popular and expansive of the first two Borderlands games.
What do you think? Would you buy a remastered Borderlands for Xbox One or PlayStation 4, and at what price would it not be worth it? Let us know in the comments!
