'Dueños del Paraíso' Cast News: Kate del Castillo Has No Problem Playing a Drug Trafficker Again
Kate del Castillo's newest telenovela, "Dueños del Paraíso," will place her in a familiar role as a drug trafficker.
Del Castillo will star as Anastasia Cardona, who lives in Miami in the 1970s during a time where whoever had control of the drug trade had power.
The actress also played a drug trafficker in "La Reina del Sur." Del Castillo said she doesn't have problems playing this kind of role, according to La Prensa.
"The truth is that I am not afraid of being pigeonholed into the drug trafficker role," she explained. "What I am afraid of is that they don't give me work. I have done many things after the series 'La Reina del Sur' that have nothing to do with drugs, such as the role where I interpreted a transvestite in the film 'K-11,' so I don't think I have been pigeonholed."
The actress added that she doesn't regret anything she has done, except that she had a difficult time when she was younger because she took things too seriously.
Though del Castillo has no problems playing a drug trafficker, this is a role that some Latino actors want to stay away from.
Mexican actor Demian Bichir has had to turn down many roles that he felt were stereotypical, he said, according to a September article by El Universal.
"I've turned down a lot of roles for gardeners," he said. "And I'm constantly turning down roles for Mexican drug traffickers."
"Dueños del Paraíso" will kick off on Telemundo on Jan. 13, 2015, but the first episode has supposedly leaked online, notes Publimetro. Someone posted a less than 35-minute video that is supposed to show the entire first episode.
Websites have also published images from the video. In the images, del Castillo's character can be seen tied up underwater. There are also pictures of Cardona's birthday in 1977. A helicopter arrives intent on killing her husband, who is the leader of the mafia.
