Sony Hack 2014: Host Alex Trebek Curses, Says He Doesn't Feel 'Support' From 'Jeopardy' Game Show Producers in Sony E-mail
Radar Online recently obtained emails from the infamous Sony email hack that feature a heated correspondence between "Jeopardy" host Alex Trebek and Sony executives.
According to Us Weekly, the email conversation between Trebek and Sony executives addressed the 74-year-old host's apparent cold demeanor towards a "Jeopardy Kid Week" contestant. During the "Jeopardy Kids Week" episode that aired on Dec. 3, Trebek told a contestant that they "won't be around for Final Jeopardy" because they accumulated $1,400 in debt.
Although Trebek was adhering to standard "Jeopardy" protocol, Sony executives emailed Trebek to demand a re-taping of the show's ending to appease the contestant's mother who wrote to Sony executives slamming Trebek for his failure to console her child, who she claims was crying backstage.
"If he had taken the time, he would have known, like you do, that my daughter is not a sore loser, and does not become emotional solely over losing a game," the woman wrote. "She was upset about not being able to completely play the game to the end. I don't think I'll ever forgive him for that."
Following the mother's letter and Sony's request to re-tape the episode's ending, Trebek slammed Sony executives via email for failing to defend him when he is "vilified."
Trebek even suggested that he should quit the show due to Sony's lack of support.
"I want to say that for 30 years I've defended our show against attacks inside and out. But it doesn't seem to operate both ways. When I'm vilified, corporate (and certainly legal) always seems to say 'don't say anything and it'll blow over,' and I'm not feeling support from the producers, and that disappoints the s--t out of me," Trebek writes. "If I'm making mistakes and saying things you don't like, maybe it's time for me to move on. It's not a threat, but I want to let you know how I'm feeling."
Radar Online reports that Trebek's "Jeopardy" contract runs until 2016. It is unclear whether Trebek will renew his contract.
