Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. Fight: ‘Pacman’ Taunts ‘Money’ on Twitter
Manny Pacquiao taunted Floyd Mayweather Jr. again on Twitter, saying that the reigning pound-for-pound king should stop talking and just make their highly anticipated fight happen next year.
In a post on his official Twitter account, Pacquiao told Mayweather to stop being "a boxing humbug" and appealed to the unbeaten champion to give boxing fans the fight that they have been clamoring for over the past several years.
Mayweather recently said that he wants to face Pacquiao on Cinco de Mayo weekend on May 2 next year, but most boxing analysts are still in doubt about his willingness to face his biggest rival.
Hall of Fame boxer Oscar De La Hoya, who is one of the biggest personalities pushing for the potential record-breaking fight, said that he will only believe Mayweather's words once the fight contract is sealed.
Mayweather accused Pacquiao's camp of fooling the public by saying that he is the one who is dodging "Pacman." The Grand Rapids, Michigan native said that the fight against Pacquiao could have happened several years back had the reigning World Boxing Organization welterweight champion agreed to undergo random drug testing.
Mayweather also added that he previously offered Pacquiao a guaranteed $40 million fight purse, but the Filipino boxing icon turned it down. Sources said that Pacquiao did not agree to the offer because Mayweather would have received all pay-per-view revenue.
In his latest statement, "Money" said that Pacquiao won't get the same amount if the fight between them happens next year because the eight-division champion has already lost to Juan Manuel Marquez and Timothy Bradley. But for Pacquiao, the fight purse will not be an issue because he is determined to make the fight happen in 2015.
"Mayweather can get the amount he wants," Pacquiao said via BoxingScene. "As early as January this year, I challenged him to a charity fight. Until now, he has not agreed to it. So, money is not the issue in our fight. This fight is about legacy, this is about making the fans happy and, above all, this is for the good of boxing."
