'X-Men: Apocalypse' 2016 Movie News, Rumors, Cast & Release Date: Hugh Jackman Reveals Film Will Overlap With Wolverine Origins [Listen]
Warning: This article contains spoilers from "X-Men: Days of Future Past"
Hugh Jackman has confirmed what many already knew: He will be playing Wolverine in "X-Men: Apocalypse."
"X-Men: Days of Future Past" left fans with a new timeline that manipulated the space-time continuum so that the previous films never happened (thank goodness). Information has been trickling out regarding the follow-up film's cast, plot, setting and, of course, timeline. Plus, everyone saw the after credits scene that seemed to show Apocalypse and his horsemen building the Great Pyramids of Egypt; however, not much more information was given.
Jackman recently participated in the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast and spoke about the movie.
"I have been speaking with the guys and I am not at liberty to tell exactly what's going on, which is largely framing my answer here, but there's still a lot unknown, actually ... " he said. "What I do know is there are some very exciting things about integrating the whole X-Men world, including the Wolverine movie. There's some really cool things going on."
Based on Jackman's statement, some sort of integration can be expected.
Meanwhile, a new Wolverine movie is set to release March 3, 2017, by which time Jackman will be 48 years old. At that point, he will have been wolverine for 17 years (talk about job security). Fans would love to see some sort of overlap between "X-Men: Apocalypse" and the new Wolverine movie. IGN suggests that something that resembles the Marvel "Avengers" movie franchise could be possible.
There is no word yet on exactly how large a part Wolverine will play in the new film -- or whether he has his Adamantium skeleton and claws. Has Wolverine met Stryker in this new timeline? Answers to all your questions will come when "X-Men: Apocalypse" hits theaters May 27, 2016.
