Verizon wants you to be able to send your relatives and friends a quick "text message present" instead of having to ship things.

Thanks to Verizon Messages, gift givers and receivers will able to interact easier than ever. Starbucks gift cards can be sent in just seconds as well as other gifts.

This is excellent for even small gifts like $5 to Starbucks, and the recipients don't even have to be Verizon customers to receive the presents.

The charges are billed directly to the Verizon customer's monthly wireless bill.

This makes perfect sense for Verizon to start this program so close to the holidays. Starbucks is found nearly everywhere in the U.S., and it being so close to Christmas (Christmas falls on Thursday), most packages will not make it to their destinations unless they were ordered last week.

Verizon will allow a personalized message and the amount of the gift card. Currently the amounts are $5, $10 or $25.

If the recipient has the Starbucks app on their smartphone or tablet, they will be able to load the gift card onto their Starbucks app.

If the recipient does not have the Starbucks app, they will simply receive a barcode. They then present their phone to the Starbucks employee so the barcode can be scanned.

Verizon Messages is different than just traditional text messages. The program was launched in 2012, and it includes texting via Wi-Fi, special backgrounds and even a driving mode.

Verizon Messages has won some awards recently for its text messaging experience.
