NBA Trade Rumors: Brooklyn Nets Could Trade Deron Williams to Sacramento Kings Before Deadline
The Brooklyn Nets are reportedly in talks with the Sacramento Kings about a deal involving All-Star point guard Deron Williams, who has been mentioned in several trade rumors this season.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, the Nets could send Williams to the Kings in exchange for Darren Collison, Derrick Williams and Jason Thompson. Sources indicated the two teams are continuously discussing the potential trade, but no deal is imminent at this point.
The Kings are reportedly pushing for the inclusion of Mason Plumlee in the deal, but the Nets are reportedly unwilling to part ways with the former Duke University standout. The Kings want to pair Plumlee with star center DeMarcus Cousins on their starting lineup. However, the Nets are high on the 24-year-old center, who is averaging 8.2 points and 6.0 rebounds in his second season in the league.
The Kings are showing reluctance to part ways with Collison, who is averaging 15.8 points to go along with 6.0 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game this season.
However, the Nets want another high-caliber point guard in return because they want to remain as a playoff team without Williams.
"The Kings have been thrilled with Collison, who has emerged as a strong leader and a popular teammate this season," Wojnarowski wrote. "There remains reluctance for Sacramento to move him in a deal, sources said, but the Nets would need a point guard to replace Williams."
Williams, who is averaging 15.6 points to go along with 6.8 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game this season, has been on the trading block over the past several weeks as the Nets are looking to retool their roster.
Most analysts believe that acquiring Williams would be a big gamble for the Kings. The 30-year-old will earn $63.1 million over the next three seasons, and there are growing concerns about his health as he has been bothered by his ailing ankles since moving to the Nets during the 2012-13 NBA season.
Aside from Williams, the Nets are also reportedly shopping All-Stars Brook Lopez and Joe Johnson in a bid to free up cap space and shake up their roster after starting the season with a 11-15 record.
