Samsung Galaxy Round Release Date, Features and Specs: First Ever Curved Display Smartphone Introduced
Samsung launches its first-ever smartphone that comes unique with a curved display screen, the Samsung Galaxy Round.
The Korean tech giant has mentioned that it's about time to ride the trend of curved phones especially when one of its main rivals, LG, said that it would start its own production of similar phones by the following year. Both companies were also the first ones who have offered curved television sets with OLED material.
According to USA Today, the Samsung Galaxy Round will feature a Super AMOLED screen at 5.7 inches. It will also boast of the "Roll Effect" that permits its users to check time, battery, date and even missed called even if it is not in the home screen. Another feature packed in the phone is the "Gravity Effect" that allows users to interact with their smartphone just by tilting it. Its music player options are also made more flexible, with panels made of plastic so that it can bend freely.
According to BBC, Samsung pushed through with the curved screen display to add more options for consumers. With the global market for smartphones growing at a fast pace, it is practical for the manufacturers like Samsung to continue offering new products to users that in change, will continue to patronize their brand.
With the birth of this flexible display technology, more manufacturer may start to see the potential in this new trend. And while several analysts say that the new technology may not be a hit at first, they see a future for this new feature that could potentially be big for tech companies. Moreover, according to Manoy Menon, the managing director of Frost & Sullivan, there are positive effects that such new curved phones can bring.
"These phones may not be a game-changer today, but they are definitely an indication of things to come," he explained to BBC.
Unfortunately, the newest Samsung curved phone is sold exclusively in Korea and there is no Samsung Galaxy Round release date yet or cost for the US and other countries.
