Dancing With the Stars 2013 Contestants Christina Milian and Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi Talk Difficulties of DWTS Dances
Christina Milian and Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, who are both current contestants on this season of ABC's Dancing with the Stars, spoke to Latina, and dished about technique, congrats, and the difficulties of the dance.
Dancing with the Stars (DWTS), now in its 17th season, is a show where twelve celebrities are paired with professional dance partners, and each couple is expected to perform different styles of dance, from the cha-cha-cha to contemporary to Samba to the Waltz, and they are judged based on their execution and their technique, which ultimately leads to elimination.
Even stars who have approached the competition with a background in dance can find the realities of weekly competitive dancing to be a struggle, so it's understandable that, both, Milian and Snooki find difficulty in the strenuous perfomances.
Afro-Cuban Milian appeared to be in good spirits, but was visibly exhausted as she spoke with Latina correspondent, Britney Valadez. She sent congrats to Big Sean and Naya Rivera on their engagement after Valadez informed her that Rivera showed it off her engagement ring the even before at a bash for Latina.
When told she looked flawless, Milian joked that she looked like the "salsa girl" emoji on the iPhone.
And, when discussing difficulties in the competition, she stated that the foxtrot she'd performed that evening had proven to be the most difficult, as it was her first ballroom and didn't seem to agree with her curves. Judges also seemed to think that her and her partner's take on the foxtrot wasn't traditional, but her partner, Mark Ballas came not only to their defense, but hers.
"Of all the foxtrots done on the season, ours was the only one that was done in whole pretty much the whole time we were dancing together. We did some side-by-side work, but that's also part of the curriculum. It's definitely difficult for her to learn the posture and the arm up, and it's even more difficult when you have to do it in a dress and heels. I was really proud of her. I thought she did good... I thought she got a little underscored," Ballas stated.
Christina and Mark received a 24 for their performance. The lowest score to be earned for the foxtrot is 18 (Bill Engvall) and the highest is 25 (Elizabeth Berkley Lauren).
The Chile-born Snooki and her partner Sasha Farber performed the Jive, and were dressed like they were ready for a pep rally. Snooki commented that her partner Farber knew how to do everything, and that's why they worked so well together. But, she admitted that he tries to teach her moves and then has to change it because she simply can't get it. When Valadez praised Snooki on her dancing ability, and professed to the pint-size reality star, "Your hips don't lie," Snooki had a modest response.
"I'm just having a good time. This is an awesome experience and I don't want to have to leave anytime soon. You just gotta get better each week."
Snooki and Farber earned a score of 24 for this weeks's performance as well.
