Avril Lavigne Rehab Rumors: 'Complicated' Singer Slams Allegations, Says 'Rumors are Hilarious'
On Tuesday, Dec. 23, "Complicated" singer Avril Lavigne took to Twitter to slam rumor reports that she had gone to rehab for depression and substance abuse issues.
The 30-year-old singer described the rumor reports as "hilarious" and revealed that her only addiction is "Bing Crosby."
Check out Lavigne's tweet below.
Rumor reports addressing her rehab stint first emerged after Lavigne direct messaged one of her fan accounts on Twitter about an undisclosed health issue she was experiencing, Us Weekly reports.
Lavigne's fan account, Avril Lavigne Charts, later posted a photo of its direct message convo with the Canadian singer, who explained that she had been absent and distant from her fans due to health issues. "I feel bad because I haven't been able to say anything to the fans to let them no (sic) why I've been absent," Lavigne wrote in the online message. "I'm torn as I'm quite private... I'm not feeling well. I'm having some health issues. So please keep me in your prayers."
Billboard reports that Lavigne created further speculation about her health after she tweeted a thank you message to her fans who sent her "lovely notes" during her recovery.
Following Lavigne's cryptic direct message and thank you post, Star published a story claiming that the "Girlfriend" singer admitted herself into rehab after struggling with depression and drug addiction due to her broken marriage with Chad Kroeger.
"The buzz in her inner circle is that she's been in rehab for depression and substance abuse issues," said a Star source. "Avril was an emotional wreck over her marital problems, and she turned to partying to deal with the pain."
The Star story also claimed that Lavigne was seen without her wedding ring as she partied for her "booze-filled" birthday bash back in September. Her husband, Kroeger, was allegedly absent for Lavigne's birthday celebration.
"Everyone hopes that if she is indeed with rehab," the source added. "It serves her well and she learns better coping mechanisms. She's got a lot of wonderful people in her life; she just needs to swallow her pride and embrace them."
