Janelle Monáe Unveils 'PrimeTime' Music Video Featuring Miguel [VIDEO]
Janelle Monáe unveiled her high-concept visual for "PrimeTime," which is one of her best tracks on her album, "The Electric Lady." The music video features a guest appearance from fellow R&B ballad singer Miguel. The two artists go on a futuristic search for love in a lonely robotic world.
The visual takes place in the starry evening at a nightclub, where Monáe works as a cocktail server, in her black-and-white striped dress. The dancer droids are programmed to entertain men, and Miguel arrives to the club. Janelle Monáe catches his sight, and nothing can distract him from removing his eyes from her, not even the seductive dancers on the poles.
In the visual, Janelle Monáe and Miguel both sing the powerful chorus, "Baby it's the prime time for our love / Ain't nobody peeking but the stars above." The conflicts can't stop their romance and Miguel's chivalrous nature wins in the end - they head back to Miguel's place for Chinese takeout.
The director --Alan Ferguson-- BET Award-winning co-director of Beyoncé's "Party" and "Dance for You" videos, elaborates on the sci-fi storyline in depth.
"PrimeTime is a love story based on the early adventures of Cindi Mayweather (Janelle Monáe) and her first love Joey Vice (Miguel). The Emotion Picture gives a glimpse at Cindi's humble beginnings as a 'cyber-server' at the Electric Sheep nightclub, a syn bar serving high-class 'show droids' to the rich and lonely in a dangerous section of Metropolis known as Slop City. Incidentally, the innovative cybersoul music played at the club directly imparted Cindi, and she began singing and performing her own innovative compositions a short time after quitting this assignment. In addition, Cindi became determined to change the public perception of what an electric lady could be, dream, and aspire to after working in the dismal conditions at the club."
Janelle Monáe's second studio album "The Electric Lady" is a follow-up to her debut album, "The ArchAndroid," and features high-profile artists, such as Prince, Erykah Badu and Miguel. Her latest album was released by Wondaland Arts Society and Bad Boy Records Monáe's last month.
