NFL Trade Rumors & Deadline 2013: Falcons, 49ers Interested in Giants Receiver Hakeem Nicks
The Oct. 29 NFL trade deadline is just around the corner and a number of teams are looking to make some last minute upgrades. The bigger question, however, is which teams are willing to part ways with some of their top stars?
The New York Giants, with an 0-6 start to the year, are one of the first teams in mind this year. The slow start has prompted trade talks among Big Blue's beat writers. Could the team trade one of its top stars as long as a top pick is guaranteed heading into next year?
The rumor is going around that star wide receiver Hakeem Nicks could be on the trading block. Some say the trade might be unlikely, but teams such as the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers are inquiring and Nicks will be a free agent in just a few months. The benefit for New York could be that the team could acquire some top young talent in exchange for a player who would only be rented for a few months.
Tom Rock of Newsday tweeted that "The Giants have not ruled out the idea of trading Hakeem Nicks, a source tells me, but it still remains unlikely."
When asked after practice about his status on the team and whether he thinks a trade could happen, Nicks said he had not yet heard anything from the team.
"I'm a Giant, and that's the only thing I can focus on right now," Nicks said. "I'm a Giant, and I love playing for the Giants. I'm a Giant right now, and I'm going to stand strong on that."
The Giants will look to get back on the winning track when the team hosts the Minnesota Vikings next week on Monday Night Football.
