Saul "Canelo" Alvarez called out Miguel Cotto to sign the contract for their highly anticipated showdown, which will likely happen on Cinco de Mayo weekend on May 2.

Alvarez expressed frustration over the ongoing back-and-forth discussion for the fight against Cotto. Canelo said he has several options for his next fight, but Cotto is on top of the list to revive the rivalry between Mexican and Puerto Rican boxers.

"I already talked to my promoter Oscar de la Hoya and I confirmed that I will fight on May 2, 2015 and Miguel Cotto is the opponent that tops the list," Alvarez said via BoxingScene. "Thank God I have several options, but I believe and I think the fans of the world, especially Puerto Rico, want me to face Cotto."

Alvarez, who improved his record to 44-1-1 with 31 knockouts after winning against Erislandy Lara and Alfredo Angulo last year, revealed Cotto's demands have already been granted to make the fight happen, which is why the Mexican boxing star is wondering why the fight isn't finalized yet.

With exactly five months left before his target fight date, Alvarez said he will not wait "much longer" for Cotto to decide, but he's still hoping the reigning World Boxing Council middleweight champion will eventually agree to face him on Cinco de Mayo weekend.

"Miguel Cotto has to decide whether or not he wants to fight me," Alvarez said. "I'm not going to wait much longer. I'll let him make his decision. Hopefully, his decision won't hurt his country and all of the fans that want this fight."

Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum, who has been negotiating with Golden Boy Promotions, told Tha Boxing Voice he cannot say the fight is already set in stone for May 2, but the famed promoter is optimistic a fight contract will be agreed on soon.

"I don't know if it looks like a go. I'm optimistic that it'll all be concluded and wrapped up," Arum said. "That fight will happen, but I can't say it's a go or anything like that because it isn't."

Contrary to recent reports, Arum said Cotto is not considering other opponents at this point. He said reports about ongoing negotiations for a rematch between Cotto and Floyd Mayweather Jr. are false.
