Minecraft for PS4 & Xbox One Mods & Gameplay: Texas Man Arrested for Stalking Underage Girl Through Game
A Texas man has been arrested in Michigan for stalking an underage girl he met through the video game "Minecraft."
He had been interacting with the victim for two years, sending her sexually explicit videos, before driving up to meet her.
Glen Timberlake, 27, was arrested in Michigan and appeared in court on Friday after he drove from Austin, Texas to meet a 14-year-old girl, reports KXAN. The two had met two years previously while playing "Minecraft" but in the last year or so their conversations have become increasingly sexual, the Isabella County Sheriff's Department said.
Timberlake sent the unidentified girl four sexually explicit videos, one of which included him and a dog. When police made the arrest, Timberlake was carrying a 13-inch knife, because he "wanted to get answers," according to police.
Austin police had warned him earlier in 2014 to stop his contact with the underage girl.
"At that point he wanted to talk to a lawyer and he wouldn't communicate anymore with the deputy," said Sheriff Leo Mioduszewski about Timberlake's interaction with police.
He was charged with accosting a child, using a computer to accost a minor, indecent exposure, stalking a minor and carrying a concealed weapon, and is being held on a $700,000 bond.
According to KXAN, a new law change in Texas prevents the police from arresting adults who communicate with minors, even sexually. However, this law allows police to intervene when the suspect attempts to meet a minor.
"A lot of times bad guys who draw those kids into that world use the exact same grooming process and say the exact same things. They will even engage in the same programs whether it is a chat program, a video game, or something like that," said Austin Police Department Detective Joel Pridgeon.
