Hari Simran Singh Khalsa, a 25-year old yoga instructor and experienced hiker, born and raised in Brooklyn, was found dead in a narrow ravine near the mountains in the Mexican town of Tepoztlan.

The man was on a yoga retreat with his wife Ad Purkh Kaur and had arrived on Dec. 26, 2014.

Tepoztlan, a colonial town near Mexico City, is a known tourist draw for its cliffs and mountain peaks that rise before the town floor.

According to The Associated Press, Kaur said she heard from her husband at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hari Simran sent a smiling picture of himself on a mountain top pointing down to the yoga retreat with the text message, "Looking down on you!"

Two hours later she received an ominous last text message from her husband in which he stated he had accidentally summited another mountain.

"Looks like I'll be a little later coming back,” he wrote, according to his wife. “Save me some lunch if you can."

Many people had been actively involved in the search for the young yoga instructor, who lived with his wife in Virginia but was planning to relocate back to Brooklyn.

The site FindHariSimran.com, which was set up to spread the word of the young man's initial disappearance and aid in his search, has thanked everyone from the local and national governments of Mexico, to the United States Embassy, the Red Cross, as well as the media and individual supporters for their efforts.

The U.S. Embassy in Mexico City confirmed the man’s death and announced it was offering consular support to Khalsa's family and extended the U.S. government's condolences.

The site that started up to help locate the young yoga instructor has now become a memorial site, taking special note of his last picture that said, "Looking down on you!"

“We know he is an angel in the heavens now looking down on all of us."
