Nexus 5 Release Date, Price, Specs Rumors: Google Smartphone Debut Likely Late Oct. or Nov. [VIDEO]
As the day grows older, it seems increasingly unlikely the Google Nexus 5 will be released today, as many bloggers hoped. The question remains: when is the true release date of Google's newest smartphone?
Google has yet to make an official statement regarding the revealing of the Nexus 5. In fact, the company has not even confirmed that a Nexus 5 is being created (although that is the most logical name for their next release).
Still, we can take a look at the history of Nexus releases and estimate a Nexus 5 arrival either this October or November:
Nexus One: Jan. 2010
Nexus S: Dec. 2010
Galaxy Nexus: Nov. 2011
Nexus 4: Late 2012
Based on this data by ars tecnica, the Nexus smartphone line is updated about every nine months. It would appear that the October or November release date that bloggers are proclaiming is not too farfetched.
"The only other specific date that's been going around is October 31, but we've yet to hear anything solid on that date," Dustin Earley, AndroidandMe blogger, told TIME.
The Nexus 5 is expected to be the first smartphone to come with Android 4.4 KitKat. According to AndroidGeeks, a 16GBNexus 5 will cost $399, while a 32GB model will cost $449. The blog cites their source as "someone close to the Mountain View-based giant who wished to remain anonymous."
The price tag, which is a bit of an increase from that of its predecessor, is rumored to get users a full HD screen measuring either 5- or 5.2-inches. Bloggers also predict a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor at 2.3 GHz and 3GB of RAM .
