Tina Fey Amy Poehler Golden Globes Hosts: SNL Alums Agree to Host Awards Show for Next Two Years
Saturday Night Live's favorite gal pals, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, have just signed on to host the Golden Globes for 2014 and 2015. The two-year deal was set in place after the ladies' initial appearance garnered them 19.7 million total viewers, which was a six-year high for the award ceremony (beating out last year's host Ricky Gervais). And, it was the second highest-rated in nine years.
Fey and Poehler have a playful rhythm and fluid chemistry when it comes to their humor. It blends and heightens their individual styles of comedy, making them an irresistible duo. Aside from their comedic stunts on this year's Golden Globes, the two also were a riot at other award shows, such as the Emmy's in September, when the heckled host Neil Patrick Harris. Poehlor bellowed from the audience, "Take you pants off!" And, Fey cosigned loudly, "And Twerk it! I come to the award shows for the twerking."
The talented writers/actresses/performers appeal heavily to the female demographic, which fuels ratings for award shows. Which was certainly a contributing factor as to why the Hollywood Foreign Press Association asked them back. Also, the two women share a stunning and natural way of delivering comedy so that it feels unrehearsed and fresh to listeners, which makes them ideal hosts.
"We are thrilled Amy and Tina have decided to return as hosts of the Golden Globe Awards for the next two years," said HFPA president Theo Kingma. "Their return ensures that the Golden Globes will once again be the biggest, best and most entertaining awards celebration of the year."
The 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards will take place on January 12 in Beverly Hills at the Beverly Hilton.
