A Wisconsin judge ruled that Dustin Diamond, the actor best known for playing Samuel "Screech" Powers on the '90s sitcom "Saved by the Bell," will have to stand trial for allegedly stabbing a man at a Wisconsin bar in December. 

The 37-year-old actor was taken into custody on Dec. 26 by police in Ozaukee County for allegedly stabbing a man with a switchblade during a bar fight in Port Washington on Christmas night. He has been charged with reckless endangerment of safety, disorderly conduct and carrying a concealed weapon.

A criminal complaint states that Diamond and his fiancée, Amanda Schutz, 27, got into a physical altercation with two men and a woman at the Grand Avenue Saloon. However, Diamond told police that he accidentally stabbed one of the men while trying to defend his fiancée.

"At approximately 11:15 p.m. on Thursday, December 25, 2014, the Port Washington Police Department responded to the Grand Ave. Saloon for reports of a stabbing. Evidence quickly gathered at the scene indicates a male, age 37, had stabbed another male patron and left the bar in a white SUV with his 27-year-old girlfriend. Officers quickly located the suspect vehicle and suspects and took both into custody," read the police statement, according to Us Weekly.

According to Diamond, the incident began after he declined to shake the hand of a woman who was bumping into his girlfriend. Soon after, he said, a man confronted him and a "brawl" erupted. 

Court documents show that the victim suffered from a non-life threatening, 1/2-inch wound under his armpit and heavy bleeding.

During a preliminary hearing on Monday, Port Washington Police Officer Ryan Hurda testified that the bar patron pushed the actor as he was moving toward the fight. The man's brother "intervened when he heard the snap of a knife," Hurda said, reports the Associated Press. 

He added that video surveillance shows that Diamond was "holding some type of object in his right hand."

After hearing his testimony, Ozaukee County Judge Paul Malloy decided that there is enough evidence for the case against Diamond.

Diamond's defense attorney, however, argues that no one saw the former child star stab anyone during the altercation. 

"There is no evidence Dustin Diamond touched anyone with his knife," Thomas Alberti told People magazine. "Dustin didn't reach out or slash out or throw his arms around and try to wound someone. He merely flashed the pocket knife to try to stop the harm that was befalling his wife." 

Diamond spent four nights in jail before posting $10,000 bail on Dec. 29.
