iPhone 6 Release Date, Features & Specs Rumors: Apple Introducing Waterproof, Shockproof Phone, Bigger 4.8-Inch Screen?
The Life Proof iPhone case could be facing some serious competition from the very top.
Rumors in the tech world are hinting towards the possibility of a waterproof and shockproof iPhone 6. Although nothing has been confirmed and wouldn't be confirmed for some time, the rumor is a reflection of how desirable it has become for smartphone users to have a mobile device that is protected from most external sources of damage.
The Tottenham News, which features a website that is not completely in English, said that the recent release of the two different iPhones brought upon speculation that Apple would be changing the casing when the next phone is release. The next iPhone release is not expected to be for another year or so after the iPhone 5s and 5c were just released.
Other rumors surrounding the phone include a size difference in the screen. Analysts are predicting that the iPhone 6 will have a 4.8 inch screen, which would make plenty of sense considering that Apple's competitors are faring well in the market for "phablets" or larger smartphones.
The iPhone 5s has done understandably well, but the iPhone 5c hasn't had as much success since its release. Connie Guglielmo of Forbes said that she believes Apple's failures with the 5c could lead the company to take advantage of a chance to introduce improvements when the iPhone 6 is released.
"We think the 85 million iPhones eligible for an upgrade when the iPhone 6 launches (we think Apple is targeting Sept. 2014) could be boosted by another 5 to 10 million from people who skipped the 5s/5c cycle," she said. While we think a 4.8″ screen iPhone could lead to Apple regaining share versus Android, just the iPhone installed base refresh supports upside to the streets fiscal year 2015 estimates."
