Last month, a man opened fire on two NYPD officers who were sitting in their patrol car in Brooklyn on Dec. 20, killing Officer Wenjian Liu, 32, and his partner, Officer Rafael Ramos, 40. The man charged with killing the officers, Ismaaiyl Brinsley, 28, then took off and shot himself in a nearby subway station. Brinsley also shot his ex-girlfriend in the stomach in her Maryland home earlier that day before driving to New York City with the intent to murder police officers.
According to the NYPD's Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce, Brinsley posted anti-police and anti-government messages on his Instagram account in light of the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, two unarmed African-American men who were killed by police who weren't charged in their deaths, before he attacked the cops.
