GTA 5 Online Gameplay & Sales: Grand Theft Auto 5 Sets Sales Record, Gets Perfect Ratings In Japan
There seems to be little give in the popularity of the juggernaut that is Grand Theft Auto V. Now, the ultra-popular game title is gaining fans and setting even more records half way across the world.
The latest figures show that GTA V has had unparalleled success with its Japanese debut. It's being reported that 360,115 units of the game's PS3 version were sold in its first week on the shelves.
That would mean yet another record for the already highly-lauded title from Rockstar Games, as it has now sold the most amount of opening week units in Japan of any Western-made title.
GTA V has already had an impressive run in the United States. It set the record for the fastest game to ever amass $1 billion in sales, doing so in a mere three days. That smashed the previous record of fifteen days held by Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
And yes, there's even more good news coming out of Japan for the immensely popular, albeit controversially violent, video game. The esteemed Japanese weekly gaming magazine Famitsu has given GTA V a perfect 40/40 rating.
That would make GTA V just the 22nd game to ever receive full honors from the magazine. Even more impressive is the fact that GTA V is now just the second video game developed outside of Japan to receive a perfect rating, the first being Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
"Despite the fact it's popular worldwide, GTA5 never takes the easy way out and continually tries to challenge itself," one reviewer for Famitsu wrote."I'm amazed at how it succeeds at this, and the fixes for issues gamers bought up with the last game make this a seemingly flawless package. It's really almost too fun."
"The overwhelming sense of reality in this city and the people living in it is more complete than the previous game. The graphics are beautiful, of course, but more than that, the setting and story makes you feel that the characters have real outlooks on their lives, which is amazing," writes another reviewer.
