A Deadly Near-Earth Asteroid Crash By 2032! Will This Be a Doomsday For Us?
Ukrainian scientists have been observing an asteroid that could be on a collision course with planet Earth in 2032. Named 2013 TV135, this asteroid was sighted September 16, 2013 and projections indicate it will return on August 26, 2032.
NASA said that it could bring a devastating impact with Earth for its collision would be similar to dispatching a 2,500 megaton bomb, likened to dropping 50 of the world's largest atomic bombs or 125,000 times the size of the Nagasaki bomb in Japan.
Can this be a cause of fear among us? Possibility of an impact will be 1 in 49,000. Such asteroid is believed to have a size in between 200 and 800 meters across. One can think of Astrodome, though not as big as the area of Texas, but it is surely massive.
The asteroid was originally discovered by Gennady Borisov from the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory and was observed to be quick in its motion and relatively close. This observation was also confirmed by astronomers from Italy, Spain, the UK, and Russia's Siberian republic of Buryatia.
NASA stated that the asteroid has an uncertain orbital path in the future and will have an elliptical orbit around the sun on its return by 2032. Asteroid 2013 TV135's prediction of a deadly crash towards us in 19 years could be true or not, but still Earth can again see its presence in 2047, this time the chance of a collision drops to 1 in 6,000,000.
NASA uses the "Torino scale" in rating near-Earth asteroids that might threaten Earth. It starts with Level 0 which means to have no threat at all up to Level 10, which definitely spells a deadly collision with our planet. Even if Asteroid 2013 TV135 is on Level 1, astronomers still believe that it would not be a cause of an alarm. So hold your breath and take another breath of relief!
