Fitbit Surge Review and Features: Big Screen Fitness Smartwatch Impresses, But Users Complain About Heart Rate Tracker
Fitbit has been around since 2007. The company designs and maintains fitness activity trackers that can be worn on the wrist or belt. Now, in 2015, Americans are seeing more wearable devices that act like smartphones and miniature computers like the Fitbit Surge, the company's most expensive and most advanced model. The $249 price tag might shy many potential buyers away, but the device is packed with features. Let's take a look at some of them.
First, the screen on this device is big but not overwhelmingly big. It looks like any watch with a bigger face. It has a beautiful and clear color display too.
The features of the Surge are almost unlimited. Of course, Fitbit included the step counter, the calories burned and the sleep tracker, but there are way more features on the Surge. One of the new features is the heart rate tracker.
Amazon users, however, have complained their heart rates were not getting recorded accurately. They recommend wearing the watch tighter than you normally would wear it.
Meanwhile, not only does the Fitbit Surge offer tracking of fitness and heart rate, but it also gives users a caller ID, music controls and GPS, PCMag reports. The GPS is built into the Fitbit Surge, so there is no need to download maps or sync it to your computer.
With the Fitbit Surge, users can customize the activities they are doing to get more accurate results. If users are cross-training, they can select that. If they are doing something slower pace like hiking, they can select that and get more accurate results for heart rate and calorie tracking.
After all the results and metrics are measured, syncing to smartphones and computers is easy with Bluetooth or USB connections.
