'Rap God' Rapper Eminem Grants Detroit Teen With Cancer His Dying Wish a Day Before His Death [Pics]
On Sunday, Detroit rapper Eminem traveled to his hometown to visit 17-year-old Gage Garmo just a day before Garmo passed away.
Gram's GoFundMe campaign says Garmo was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, during his freshman year of high school. The cancer grew rapidly worse over the years, and in his senior year, Garmo was told he only had one week to live.
With only a week left to live, Garmo's friends, family and members of the Rainbow Connection gathered together to successfully create a social media campaign to grant Garmo's dying wish to meet Eminem. The hashtag #GetGageGarmoToMeetEminem quickly became a trending topic online and eventually caught the attention of Eminem's camp.
Eminem then scheduled a private flight from Atlanta to Detroit and arrived at Garmo's home at approximately 5 p.m.on Sunday, Daily Mail reports.
Upon his arrival, Eminem insisted that no paparazzi be present so that he could spend quality time with Garmo with no media chaos, according to TMZ.
Garmo and Eminem allegedly spent two hours together at the boy's home and discussed a wide array of topics including their mutual love of hip hop and the Detroit Lions, says the Daily Mail.
"Gage sat up with a grin on his face," Rainbow Connection's Ingrid Todt told the Detroit Free Press about the visit. "His family hadn't seen their son do that in such a long time."
Rainbow Connection's executive director Mary Grace McCarter also chimed in on Eminem's visit and thanked the rapper and Garmo's friends for granting his wish.
"We're so glad we were able to reach Eminem's people and they were able to respond, and Eminem was able on such short notice to go and see this boy in his own home," she said. "It says something about everybody, really. I hope all the students and friends of Gage feel good about their well-wishes too."
Following Eminem's visit, his label mate Royce da 5'9'' confirmed on Instagram that the rapper had indeed visited Garmo and thanked his friends and family for their hard work.
Sadly, Garmo died on Monday, a day after Eminem's visit, WTNH reports.
