Casey Anthony Lawsuit 2013: Acquitted Mother Reaches Settlement Over $100,000 Search and Rescue Bill
Two years and three months after Casey Anthony's release from prison, the rarely seen "tot mom" reached a settlement with the Texas EquuSearch search and rescue organization.
The organization -- which had sent "countless" volunteers to search for Anthony's 2-year-old daughter who was later found dead -- sued the former mother after her attorney mentioned in his opening statement that Anthony knew Caylee wasn't missing and that she drowned in the backyard pool.
Marc Wites, a lawyer for Equusearch, reportedly said that he is not sure if Texas EquuSearch will be receiving funds through bankruptcy courts.
"Texas EquuSearch's mission and purpose is to help families and individuals to find their missing loved ones," he said. "That's the reason they helped the Anthony family in the first place. While they were searching for Caylee, they got calls from other families for help and had to turn them away."
Anthony was acquitted after she was charged with killing her daughter. The trial gained national attention and the vast majority of people believed that it was clear that Anthony was guilty since she repeatedly told several different stories about what happened with her daughter. It was not until six months after disappearing that Caylee was found dead in the woods -- covered in duct tape -- not far from her home.
Anthony still has to answer more lawsuits, most notably a defamation lawsuit from Zenaida Gonzalez. Anthony was sued after she told police that Gonzalez kidnapped her daughter.
Anthony was last seen leaving a federal courthouse in March of earlier this year.
