Tim Burton, the dark and quirky director behind classics such as The Nightmare Before Christmas, Pee-wee's Big Adventure and Sweeney Todd, is currently in talks to make the sequel to the life-after-death black comedy Beetlejuice.

Sources state that Tim Burton will definitely be directing an installment to the supernatural thriller, Beetlejuice, and Warner Bros. will fund the project. The same sources say that Michael Keaton is on the hook to reprise his role as the ghostly title character, Beetlejuice. The Geffen Company, producers of the 1988 original film, will produce Beetlejuice 2 with screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg of KatzSmith Production. Seth Grahame-Smith who was slated to be the screenwriter for the film some time ago has yet to create a physical script.

According to TheWrap, it seems to be the perfect time for Burton and Keaton to reunite for their first time since Batman Returns, as they've both just finished big projects, one of which was Keaton's starring role in the remake of RoboCop.

Since directing the fantasy film about a recently deceased young couple who haunt their former home and the "bio-exorcist" named Beetlejuice who is tasked with helping them to scare the home's new inhabitants, Burton has directed a number of well-known feature films.  Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Corpse Bride, Dark Shadows Frankenweenie Batman,Batman Returns, Planet of the Apes, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland are some of his other claims to fame. Burton is also known for his poetry, sketches and drawings; and illustrated and wrote a book of poetry called The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy & Other Stories.
