Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo and Russian model and actress Irina Shayk recently ended their five-year relationship, Us Weekly reports.

Shayk's agent released a statement to confirm the split and insisted the breakup had nothing to do with the rumored tension between the model and Ronaldo's family.

"We can confirm Irina Shayk has ended her relationship to Cristiano Ronaldo of five years. She has been close with his family throughout the course of their relationship," Shayk's agent said in a statement. "Any negative rumors with regards to Irina and the Ronaldo family are completely false, and have not been a factor in the cause of the spilt. Irina has no further comment at the time."

The Daily Mail notes that prior to their split, Portuguese newspaper Coreio de Manhana reported Shayk and Ronaldo decided to split following Shayk's refusal to attend a birthday bash for Ronaldo's mother, Dolores.

"Cristiano wanted to surprise his mum and as he spent Christmas with Irina in Dubai, he had planned to be with his mum on her birthday, but Irina didn't want to go," said a Coreio de Manhana source.

"They had such a big row that he ended up spending New Years Eve alone with his son. Irina mouthed off about Dolores and Ronaldo took sides with him mum. It was the straw that broke the camel's back because they had hadn't been getting on well in the last few months."

Following the alleged argument, Shayk stopped following Ronaldo on Twitter and failed to attend Ronaldo's award ceremony for the FIFA Ballon d'Or award.

Since the split, Bucks forward, Giannis Antetokounmpo has tweeted he would like to be Shayk's rebound now that she is back on the market, the New York Daily News reports.
